JOHOR - KLUANG

Kluang name derives from the Malay word 'bat', which means a big bat or fruit bats.

Kluang is located in the heart of Johor State, surrounded by all regions, except Muar. The city was founded in 1915 as the administrative capital of central Johor by the British.

The first time I set foot in Kluang town was on 1 November 2008 when coordinating a visit for members of The Institution of Engineers Malaysia to Zenxin Organic Park in Jalan Batu Pahat, Kluang, Johor.

As Malaysia’s leading producer, distributor and retailer of organic produce, and also a member of International Federation of Organic Farm Movements (IFOAM), ZENXIN has successfully created a completely certified organic production chain comprising compost factory, organic farms and organic wholesaler certified by National Association for Sustainable Agriculture Australia (NASAA).

ZENXIN is also certified organic under myOrganic, as accredited by The Department of Agriculture, Malaysia.

I had the opportunity visit Kluang City against while working with the Malaysian Heart Foundation

Among the health programs taking place in Kluang are the following:

JOHOR : AEON MALL PERMAS JAYA, MASAI

HJ ZULHEIMY MAAMOR
26 JULY 2024

PERMAS JAYA
JOHOR BAHRU, JOHOR
Permas Jaya is the official name for Bandar Baru Permas Jaya, a suburb in Johor Bahru, Johor.
In a tight-knit community across 1,400 acres, Permas Jaya locals enjoy all the perks of a quiet, suburban life but with the added bonus of being just a short distance from the hustle and bustle of the lively Johor Bahru City Centre.

Yayasan Jantung Malaysia has held a health screening program at AEON Mall Permas Jaya from 2015 to 2018. However, I only attended the health program held in 2017 and 2018.

AEON MALL PERMAS JAYA
JOHOR BAHRU, JOHOR
1-5 NOVEMBER 2017
On 31 October 2017, the Yayasan Jantung Malaysia Awareness Team traveled from Kuala Lumpur to Permas Jaya, Johor Bahru with a journey of 337 km which took approximately 3 hours 35 minutes.
The trip to Johor Bahru is for the next Health Screening program which is the "Johor Bahru Heart Week 2017" Program which take place at the AEON Permas Jaya Shopping Complex located in Bandar Baru Permas Jaya, Masai, Johor.
During the program from 1 to 5 November 2017 we stayed at Lavender Inn Permas Jaya which is located just behind AEON Permas Jaya. So we just walked to AEON Permas Jaya from our hotel.

Also helping us in this program are nurses from Masai Health Clinic, Tebrau Health Clinic, KPJ Puteri Specialist Hospital and KPJ Pasir Gudang Specialist Hospital.
During the 5-day program, a total of 629 people underwent a health screening test.

During this program in Johor Bahru, we had the opportunity to visit a famous place in Johor Bahru called Cafe Kilang Bateri, located in Tampoi Industrial Area. Why is it called Battery Factory?
Originally, this building was the Eveready Battery Factory, which operated around the 1960s. However, it was closed and renovated into a shopping, food, and hangout place in 2013.

Johor Bahru is famous for it Mee Rebus, a dish comprising Chinese noodles in thick, spicy gravy. The dish contains spices from the Malay Peninsula and was originally peddled by Indian Muslim immigrants. Rebus in Malay means "to blanch", thus mee rebus refers to "blanched noodles".

Kacang Pool... if you are in KL, you rarely hear the name of this food. But in JB it is very famous. Kacang Pool are very popular in Johor and Singapore. Kacang pool is a dipping dish that goes so well with capati, roti canai, empty bread waimah pancake is also delicious. The dish is served with a "Telor Mata kerbau" (buffalo eye egg) with the yolk part left slightly soft, diced onion, diced tomato, red and green chili slices and poured a little liquid ghee before serving.
If you go to Johor Bahru, don't forget to try Kacang Pool... it's guaranteed to be delicious... it doesn't hurt to try....

The Johor Health Week 2017 program ended on 5 November 2017. We left for Kuala Lumpur on 6 November 2017 and arrived in Kuala Lumpur at approximately 4.30pm.
The program in Johor Bahru has finished... in sha Allah next year we will try to do this program again.
