HOTEL MEMORIES (CHINA)

1 AUGUST 2001 : HUILONG HOTEL, CHENGDE, CHINA
Often referred to as Huilong Dasha Hotel in Chengde, China. The hotel is a well-known landmark in Chengde, due to its proximity to the city's main transport hub and its historical status as one of the earlier multi-functional high-rise hotels in the area. Situate at No. 1, Xinjuzhai North, Chezhan Road, in the Shuangqiao District, just 5-10 minute walk from the Chengde Railway Station. 
I stayed at this hotel during the IEM staff trip to China in 2001. The hotel serves as a base for tourists visiting Chengde's UNESCO World Heritage sites such as Chengde Mountain Resort, Putuozongsheng Temple, Puning Temple etc. 


31 JULY 2001: BEIJING TAIWAN HOTEL, BEIJING (北京台湾饭店)
The Hotel is famous for its distinctive twin Chinese Pagoda Towers on the roof. This "Sino-modern" style was very popular for prestigous buildings during the 1980's and 1990's. The Hotel was located at Jinyu Hutong. 
We stayed at this hotel during the IEM Staff Trip to China in 2001. 


27 JULY 2001: BEIJING LANDMARK TOWER, BEIJING
Beijing Landmark Towers (北京亮马河大厦) is still well-known fixture in the Chaoyang  District today. Opening in 1990, the hotel was a popular choice for business travelers dutie to its proximity to the China International Exhibition Center and various embassies. 
We stayed at this hotel during IEM Staff visit in 2001. 


24.12.2003: XIN KAI FU HOTEL, SHANGHAI
Located at 888, Sichuan Bei Road, Shanghai, China, originally opened in 1996, it was a 27-story building with 276 rooms. It was a prominent fixture in the Hongkou District, known for its proximity to the Bund and the Shopping district of North Sichuan Road. 
We stayed at this hotel during IEM Staff visit in 2003 to Shanghai, Hangzhou and Suzhou. 
Latest information on website, this hotel is no longe operating under the name in 2025. It is now known as Hitime Internation Tower. 



22.12.2003: JIAN FENG HOTEL, HANGZHOU, CHINA
Also known as Xin Yu Jian Feng Hotel is located at Qiutan North Road (Qiutan Bei Lu). in the District of Hangzhou. It is known locally as the Jianfeng Mansion. Located near the Qingchun Squae and theINtime Mall, a very busy commercial area today. 
We stay at this hotel during IEM Staff visit to China in 2003.



22.12.2003 : ZHEJIANG RAILWAY HOTEL, ZHEJIANG, CHINA
Zhejiang Railway Hotel (浙江铁道大厦) an iconic landmark in Hangzhou, China, known for its unique "H-shaped" or "gate" architecture that straddles the entrance to the Hangzhou Railway Station. 
We did not stay at this hotel, we only having our Dinner for that night at his hotel. 


2016: TAISHUN BUSINESS HOTEL, BEIJING
Taishun Business Hotel (also known as Taishun Shangwu Jiudian in Chinese, written as 泰顺商务酒店 on the building's facade). Located at Zhoujiazhuang, Chaoyang District, Beijing. China, near the East Fourth Ring Road. It was a popular choice for group tours because of its proximity to the Beijing Happy Valley theme park.
Based on recent information for 2025, the Taishun Business Hotel is no longer operating under that name. It is now operating as a Ji Hotel. 


12.11.2017: DAYS INN FRONTIER YANGSHUO HOTEL, GUILIN
Situated at Guanlian Road, strategically placed near the Li River and about 15-20 minute walk from the famous West Street (Xi Jie). This hotel was a popular 4-star choice for international travelers known for its blend of traditional Chinese architecture and modern western amenities. 
I stayed at this hotel with my familes during our vacation to China in 2017. 




13.11.2017: UNIVERSAL HOTEL, GUILIN, CHINA
Also known as Univeral International Hotel, a well-known 3 to 4-star Hotel favored by International tour groups because of its prime location in the heart of the city. 
Located at Jiefang East Road, right on the banks of the Li River, its surrounding would have offered some of the most iconic views of Guilin. 



NOVEMBER 2017: ROYAL TULIP LUXURY HOTEL, GUANGZHOU, CHINA
A 5-star Luxury hotel located at the foot of Baiyun Mountain in Guangzhou, China. The hotel featured between 178 and 302 rooms, known for their modern design and signature-glass enclosed bathrooms with rainfall showers. 
Me and my family stayed at this hotel during our vacation to China in 2017. 




That's a brief account of my travels to China. So far I have traveled to almost 9 regions in China.

CHINA - BEIJING (2016)

My wife and her mother joined the Andalusia Travel & Tours Sdn Bhd group to explore Beijing, People's Republic of China on September 16, 2016. The group departed from KLIA 2 Airport on the evening of September 16, 2016.



KUALA LUMPUR INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT 2
16 SEPTEMBER 2016
KLIA 2 is the new low-cost airline terminal at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), Malaysia. This terminal is located less than 2 kilometers from the KLIA Terminal Main Building (MTB). KLIA2 was built to accommodate the rapid growth in low-cost tourism in the region and replace the Low-Cost Terminal (LCCT). KLIA 2 was opened on 2 May 2014 and all flight operations at LCCT moved to KLIA 2 on 9 May 2014.





17 SEPTEMBER 2016 : BEIJING CAPITAL INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
Beijing Capital International Airport is the main airport in Beijing. It is located 32 km northeast of Beijing Main City in the Shunyi district of Beijing.

BEIJING
Beijing, formerly known as Peking, is the capital of the People's Republic of China. Beijing is the second largest city in China after Shanghai. It is also one of the four Great Ancient Capitals of China.
Beijing has been the capital of China since the reign of the Ming Dynasty, when the Yongle Emperor was responsible for moving his capital from Nanjing to Beijing. Even the Yongle Emperor was the first to call it "Beijing".


Electric Vehicle (EV) or a Low-Speed Vehicle (LSEV)

Tower of Buddhist Incense (Fo Xiang Ge) at the Summer Palace (Yihe Yuan), located at Haidian District, Beijing, China. 

White Pagoda (Baita) in Beihai Park, Beijing. 
A famous landmark in Beijing, located on Jade Flower Island (Qionghuadao) in the center of Beihai Lake. The Tibetan-style stupa, originally built in 1651 during the Qing Dynasty to honor the visit of 5th Dalai Lama.



TAI SUN BUSINESS HOTEL, BEIJING
While in Beijing, my wife's group stayed at the Tai Sun Hotel, which is located on Chaoyang, Dayangfang Road, Beijing. 



The hotel entrance shows the name 泰顺商务酒店 (Tài Shùn Shāngwù Jiǔdiàn) on the building, which translates to Tai Shun Business Hotel. Located near Shibali Dian North Bridge, East Fourth Ring Road, Beijing.

FORBIDDEN CITY OF CHINA
The Forbidden City is a Chinese emperor's palace that was first used during the reign of the Ming Dynasty. It now houses the Palace Museum, which is open to the public.
This palace was used by the Emperor of China for almost 500 years until Emperor Puyi of the Qing Dynasty was overthrown in 1911. Built on the orders of Emperor Zhu Di (the 2nd Emperor of the Ming Dynasty) in the years 1406 to 1420, it contains 980 buildings and 8,707 rooms. The city was declared a World Heritage Site in 1987.










NIU JIE MOSQUE
Niu Jie Mosque is the oldest mosque in Beijing, built in 996 AD during the Liao Dynasty. Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty later restored and enlarged this mosque.
In 1215, the Mongol army under Genghis Khan destroyed the mosque, but it was rebuilt in 1443 during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).
The mosque is situated in Niujie, in the Xicheng district of Beijing. It is estimated that around 10,000 Chinese Muslims reside in this area.







TIANANMEN SQUARE
Tiananmen Square is a large square near the center of the city of Beijing, China. Tiananmen (Heaven's Gate of Peace) is located to the north and separates this square from the Forbidden City. This plain is 40.5 hectares (100 acres) and is the largest plain in the world.
Near this square is also the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong (Founder of the People's Republic of China in 1949). This mausoleum was completed in 1977.
It was here on April 15, 1989, that a series of demonstrations led by students, intellectuals, and labor activists took place in the People's Republic of China. The death toll from the riots is between 2,000 and 3,000 people according to figures from the Chinese Students Association and the International Red Cross.

MADIAN MOSQUE, BEIJING
The Madian Mosque is located on Madian South Street in the Haidian district of Beijing. This mosque was built by Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty approximately 300 years ago.
This mosque has been listed as one of the major cultural heritage sites under state-level protection in Beijing.





PANDA HOUSE
Located within the Beijing Zoo, the Panda House is an attraction in Beijing. Panda is a unique animal species in China. It likes to live in bamboo groves. Pandas eat leaves and bamboo sticks.
The Beijing Zoo was built in 1906 in Qing Dynasty with an area of only 10 hectares and a few humble pavilions to house the animals. It was named as "Wansheng Garden"( Ten-Thousand Animal Garden) and officially renamed as Beijing Zoo in 1955. Now it covers an area of 86 hectares, breeding over 5000 animals in more than 450 species. Beijing Zoo has rare Chinese animals, such as the Giant Panda, the Golden Monkey, the Red Panda, Sichuan golden monkey, Manchurian tigers, yaks from Tibet, enormous sea turtles and also a strong selection from around the world - Indian elephants, zebras and giraffes from Africa - the list of animals could be very long.






SUMMER PALACE
The Summer Palace is located on the outskirts of Beijing, China, about 15 km from the capital city of Beijing. It became a tourist attraction and was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998. It was originally built during the Jin Dynasty in 1153 by Emperor Wanyan Liang.








THE GREAT WALL OF CHINA
The Great Wall of China is one of the Seven Wonders of the World and was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1987. The length of the Great Wall of China is about 6,400 kilometers, starting from Shanhaiguan up to Bohai Bay, which is located near the border of China and Manchuria.
Built over 2,000 years ago by the first Chinese Emperor, Qin Shi Huangdi, during the Qin Dynasty (221 BC – 206 BC).
A survey conducted by archaeologists in 2009, using modern technology equipment, reported that the total length of the Great Wall of China is 8,851 km (5,500.3 miles).
Although the Great Wall was built during the Qin Dynasty, what we see today is the development carried out by the Emperor of the Ming Dynasty (1368 AD - 1644 AD).









This is Laolongtou (Old Dragon's Head), the east Starting Poing of the Great Wall of China. It is the easternmost end of the Ming Dynasty Great Wall, where the wall extends into the Bohai Sea. Located in Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province. 


Zhendong Tower at Shanhaiguan (Shanhai Pass). The text states "First Pass Under Heaven" (This is the famous nickname for the pass, and the characters "天下第一關" are visible on the banner/sign on the tower). It is located in Qinhuangdao,Hebei Province. 



DASHANZI ART DISTRICT
Dashanzi Art District also known as 798 Art Zone is located in Danshanzi in Chaoyang district in Beijing. Built around 1951, it was originally a factory belonging to the Chinese military.





Such are the memories of my wife's visit with my mother-in-law to Beijing, China which certainly left unforgettable memories.... WALKING AWAY WITH A WIDE VIEW...
