PULAU PINANG - GEORGETOWN

Georgetown is the capital of Pulau Pinang, second largest metropolitan area and the second largest metropolitan economy in the country.

Established as an entrepot by Captain Francis Light in 1786, Georgetown was the first British settlement in Southeast Asia. It was named in honour of King George III, the ruler of Great Britain and Ireland between 1760 and 1820.

29 JULY 2015
A program coordination meeting was held with the National Kidney Foundation at their office in Georgetown, Penang on 29 July 2015.

While in Georgetown, we took the opportunity to stroll around the city and take some memorable photos.

Chowrasta Market in Georgetown has been here since the 80s. It is one of the oldest markets in Malaysia and perhap the best-known market on Penang Island.  It has been renovated with ample car park. It is a wet and dry market. We found out this place when out walking one morning.
Chowrasta is a must as there is no haggling and hawkers are mostly exhibiting their wares and no heckling of visitors.
My favourite is the second hand book stores on the second level.

Ibu Pejabat Polis Pulau Pinang

The famous Nasi Kandar Beratur in Georgetown got its name from the long queue of people outside the shop. Like most Nasi kandar places, you basically tell them what items you want with rice. However, I still prefer the Nasi Kandar Line Clear to this, maybe because of the long queue....

OLD PENANG HOTEL
JALAN KAMPUNG JAWA
GEORGETOWN, PULAU PINANG
19 APRIL 2015
Another location in Georgetown that I remember is the Old Penang Hotel located on Jalan Kampung Jawa, Georgetown.
We stayed at this hotel during the Colour My Heart Run program at Padang Kota Lama on 19 April 2015.

I still remember the stall selling putumayam just a few meters from my hotel. The stall sees a non-stop stream of customers when I was there, I finally managed to buy a few pieces before returning to my hotel.

Visiting Georgetown, Penang, Malaysia is generally considered worth it, especially if you're interested in exploring a well-preserved historic city with beautiful colonial architecture, diverse cultural influences, delicious street food, and unique street art murals, making it a great destination for a short trip with a lot to see and do in a walkable area.

The travel distance from the Malaysian Heart Foundation at Jalan Semarak Kuala Lumpur to Terap Inn, Kuala Nerang, Kedah is 465 km and the travel time is 5 hours.

This time's Heart Disease Awareness Program is in collaboration with the Padang Terap District Health Office, Lincoln University College and the Malaysian Diabetes Association.

Throughout the program we stayed at Terap Inn Kuala Nerang. Terap Inn Kuala Nerang is located 500 meters from the town of Kuala Nerang, Kedah and has 16 rooms and one VIP room. Terap Inn is owned by the Padang Terap District Council.

You can explore the best of Kuala Nerang, it is a hidden gem in Malaysia that offers a unique travel experience. Some of the interesting places in Kuala Nerang is the Ulu Muda Forest Reserve, home to various species of flora and fauna and a great place for hiking.

We passed through Pendang town on our way to Kuala Nerang.
