HOTEL MEMORIES (PERAK)

2003: HOTEL SERI MALAYSIA, TAIPING
During my family vacation at Taiping, we stayed at the Hotel Seri Malaysia, situated at Jalan Sultan Mansur, just a short walk from the famous Taiping Lake Garden and the Zoo Taiping & Night Safari.
Hotel Seri Malaysia was one of the most popular mid-range hotels in Perak. Part of the nationwide chain established in 1994, it was designed to provide affordable, comfortable and culturally authentic Malaysian hospitality. The area aroung the holte was dotted with old-British era rest houses.


7 APRIL 2012: BLUE BAY RESORT, LUMUT
During the Health Screening Program that took place at the Dewan Takraw on Pangkor Island on 7 April 2012, my colleagues and I,  from the Malaysian Heart Foundation stayed at the Blue Bay Resort at Jalan Titi Panjang, Lumut, Perak. A budget-friendly option for travelers. 
Today in 2025, it was rebranded to Harbourside Hotel Sdn Bhd, continues to serve as a practical base for travelers visiting the Lumut Waterfront. 


16 APRIL 2012: FAIR PARK HOTEL, IPOH
My friends and I stayed at this hotel on our way back from our program at Kg.Titi Teras, Balik Pulau, Penang on 15 April 2012.
We stopped in Ipoh to attend a meeting at AEON Kinta City the next day.
We also stayed at this hotel again during the Ipoh Heart Week program at AEON Kinta City from 19-24 June 2012.
Fair Park Hotel located at Jalan Kamarudin Isa, Ipoh, had been recognised by the Perak Tourism Board in 2011 as an award-winning budget hotel, which is likely made it a popular choice during our visit. 
The nama "Fair Park" comes from a 1930's British colonial housing scheme designed by Iverson & Co. Back then, people called the area "Kee Ah Molau" (English House) because it was where many British expatriates lived. 


8.9.2012: KAMPAR REST HOUSE
A traditional government rest house, a common type of accomodation in Malaysia originally established for government officials but later open to public. It featured the classic white-and-red roof aesthetic with a public swimming pool and simple, functional rooms. Located at Jalan Baru, Kampar, Perak, managed by Majlid Daerah Kampar. 
We stayed at this rest house during our event at the Taman Ros, Kampar, Perak on 9 September 2012. 
The Kampar Rest House has been renamed Hotel De Cassia still managed under the purview of Majlis Daerah Kampar. 



2013/2015: GALAXY INN, LUMUT, PERAK
A budget hotel, surrounding Lumut Waterfront , a nostalgic spot for many who have made the trek to Pangkor Island over the last decade. 
In 2025, the hotel is still operating, despite several newer hotels like the Brezza Hotel and Mornington Hotel Waterfront have opened nearby, making the competition for the budget stays a bit tighter. 
I once stayed at Galaxy Inn when attending a Program Coordination meeting at AEON Sri Manjung in 2013 and 2015.

NOVEMBER 2013: LEAD VIEW HOTEL, SERI MANJUNG
My colleagues and I had stayed at this hotel during the Heart Week Program at AEON Seri Manjung, Perak from 22-24 November 2013. 
The Lead View Hotel is now known as Hotel Sfera, it remains a landmark in the Taman Samudera area 


2013: HOTEL LEGEND INN,TAIPING
Stayed at this hotel on our way back from Kedah and Penang. We stopped over for the night at this hotel. 
Legend Inn Taiping was a popular choise for travelers visiting Taiping. Located at Jalan Long Jaafar.



11.4.2015: GRAND KAMPAR HOTEL, KAMPAR
When holding a Health Screening program at Taman Ros Kampar on 12 April 2015, we stayed at the Grand Kampar Hotel located on Jalan Timah, Bandar Baru Kampar.
Grand Kampar Hotel, a 3-star Hotel is a well-known in the Kinta Valley, particularly popular for its unique Spanish-style architecture and its proximity to Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR). Just a walking distance of the Kinta Tin Mining Museum and is a central hub for those visiting students at UTAR or TAR UMT. 


SEPTEMBER 2015: MARINA COVE RESORT, TELUK BATIK, LUMUT
Our Family vacation and we stay at Marina Cove Resort, Teluk Batik, Lumut, Perak. One of thejbest "base camps" for exploring the area - it's only a 2-minute drive to Teluk Batik Beach and about 5 minutes to the Marina Island Jetty if you want to hop over to Pulau Pangkor. 


26.8.2015: PANORAMA HOTEL, TAIPING
Stayed at this hotel while attending the Program Coordination Meeting at AEON Mall Taiping on 26 August 2015.
The hotel located at Jalan Kota, is a well-known landmark in Taiping, uniquely integrated with Raintown Plaza. It was a bustling hub with a supermarket Fajar ? The Store and various local shops. 


30.9.2016 : ABBY HOTEL, CHEMOR, PERAK
While organizing a Health Screening program at S.K. Tanah Hitam, Chemor, Perak on 1 October 2016, my friends and I stayed at Hotel Abby in Chemor, Perak. 
The Abby Hotel, a budget-friendly hotel for travelers and business workers in the Kanthan Industrial Zone. 


16.12.2017: CHERRY INN, TAIPING
While organizing a Health Screening program at Taiping Buddhist Society on 17 December 2017, my friends and I stayed at the Cherry Inn Hotel on Jalan Stesen, Taiping. Just a short walk from the Taiping Railway Station and the Taiping Mall, and next to Sek.Keb. King Edward VII. 


10.8.2018: HILLCITY HOTEL, GUNUNG RAPAT, IPOH
My colleagues at YJM and I stayed at this hotel to attend the Health Screening Program at Kg. Pos Brooke Lama in Gua Musang, Kelantan the next day.
The hotel located nearby the Klinik Kesihatan Gunung Rapat, on a slope, offering one of the best vantage points to see the limestone karst hills that Ipoh is famous for. 
Sadly, as I check the Google Maps in 2025, this hotel appears to be permanently closed. 



6.8.2018: LAVENDER INN, TELUK INTAN, PERAK
The Hotel located at Jalan Changkat Jong, Pusat Perniagaan Teluk Intan, an budget-friendly hotel. Sadly, when I check through Google Maps for latest info in 2025, the hotel appears to be permanently closed. We stayed at this hotel during our event at Majlis Perbandaran Teluk Intan on 6 August 2018. 
Once you have reached Teluk Intan, don't forget to visit the famous Leaning Tower in Teluk Intan.



5.8.2018: SAYONG RESORT, KUALA KANGSAR, PERAK
We stayed at the Sayong Resort located in Kuala Kangsar, Perak during our Health Screening Program at Masjid Aziziah, Kg. Ketior Dalam, Kuala Kangsar. 
This resort is well-known for its beautiful riverside location and the classic Malay-chalet-style architecture. Located on a prime spot of the Perak River, and had 32 guest rooms and chalets. It is perfectly situated near iconic landmarks like Masjid Ubudiah and Istana Kenangan. 





22.10.2018: SEEMSOON HOTEL,IPOH
Situated at Regat Dato Mahmud, off Jalan Pasir Putih, Ipoh, a popular spot because its a quick drive to the famous Ipoh "Dim Sum Street" and the Old Town. 
We Stayed at his hotel during our program at AEON Midtown Falim in Ipoh from 19-22 October 2018. 


Thus ended my journey in the state of Perak, carrying out the task entrusted to me. If I have the means, I will definitely return to explore the state of Perak.

HOTEL MEMORIES (PAHANG)

18.7.1998: SELESA HILL HOMES, BUKIT TINGGI, PAHANG
A wonderful trip back to 1998, captures a specific era of Malaysian family holidays.  Selesa Hillhome was, and remains, a beloved getaway for many families seeking the cool mountain air of Bukit Tinggi without the intense crowds of Genting Highlands.
This picture was taken during a CJ Management and Consultants staff vacation in 1998.


18.2.2001: GENTING VIEW RESORT
On 18 February 2001 I attended a meeting at Genting View Resort located in Genting Highland, Pahang. The journey from Kuala Lumpur to Genting View Resort is 43 minutes and the travel distance is 40.9 km.
Genting Highland is a hill station located on the peak of Mount Ulu Kali in the Titiwangsa Mountains, central Peninsular Malaysia. 
Genting Highland was established in 1965 by the late Malaysian businessman Lim Goh Tong. 


25-27 MAY 2002: AWANA GOLF & COUNTRY RESORTS, GENTING HIGHLANDS
The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia held the ISO Training for staffs and members from 25 to27 May 2002 at Awana Golf & Country Resorts, Genting Highlands. 
In 2002, the engineering world was in the midst of a major transition to the ISO 9001:2000 standard. As a professional body, IEM was likely training its members of staff to align with these new global standards to ensure Malaysian engineering remained competitive. 
The Awana Golf & Country Resort is now known as Resorts World Awama, at 3,100 feet above sea level, was a favourite spot for "residential trainings" like this because of the cool weather (usually 16-24 degrees) kept everyone fresh during long seminar hours.  


11 MAY 2007: GENTING INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION CENTRE
The site visit to Genting International Convention Centre is part of 16th Southeast Asian Geotechnical Conference (16th SEAGC) held at Subang Sheraton Hotel & Tower from 8-11 May 2007.
The GICC located 6,000 feet above sea level as part of the Resorts World Genting. 


25 APRIL 2012: HOTEL KRISTAL, BENTONG, PAHANG
During the Health Screening Program at SMK Bentong on 25 April 2012, my colleagues and I stayed at Hotel Kristal, Bentong, Pahang.
Located at Jalan Chan Siang, right behind the KFC in town and is just a short walk from Bentong Walk Night Market.


6 OCTOBER 2013: ISSORIA HOTEL, BANDAR TUN RAZAK, PAHANG
The hotel located at Bandar Jengka, Bandar Tun Razak, Pahang has been in business for many years. It is a budget-friendly hotel with strategic location and conveniet for visitors to the area, including those visiting nearby Universiti Teknologi MARA. 
During the Health Screening Program at Kampung Sungai Jerik, Jengka, Pahang, my colleagues and I stayed at this hotel. 


12.6.2013: HOTEL SRI JAYA, MARAN, PAHANG
A simple, basic and budget-friendly place with free WiFi and hot shower. It is strategically located near the main road of Sri Jaya. We stayed at this hotel during our Health Program at Kg.Sri Jaya at Maran, Pahang.


10.5.2014: VILLA RENGIT, INSTITUT BIODIVERSITI, LANCHANG, PAHANG
During the Health Screening Program at Kg. Bolok Hulu Sokmik at Lanchang, Pahang on 10 May 2014, we stayed at the Villa Rengit located at the Institut Biodiversiti, Bukit Rengit, Lanchang, Pahang. 
The Villa is situated within the Institute's grounds. The Institut Biodiversiti is a training centre for staff of the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (PERHILITAN). It is nearby the Kuala Gandah National Elephant Conservation Centre and the Krau Wildlife Reserve. 


SEASON VIEW HOTEL, KUANTAN, PAHANG
Located at Lorong Haji Abdul Rahman 1, an active hotel that still hosts events as 2015. My colleagues and I stayed at this hotel during programs at Kuantan Parade in 2014 and 2017.

17.5.2015: HOMESTAY AT KG. SOKMIK BOLOK HULU, LANCHANG, PAHANG
This homestay located at Kg.Sokmek, Bolok Hulu, Lanchang,Pahang, popular for outdoor activities such as visiting the Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary and the nearby Deer Park. Other homestays in the surrounding area include Inap D'Kebun dan Mutiara Homestay Bolok. 
We stayed at this program during our Health Program at FELDA Lakum at Lanchang, Pahang. 


13.11.2016: EV WORLD HOTEL, MENTAKAB, PAHANG
My colleagues and I stayed at EV World Hotel in Mentakab during the Health Program at Taman Saga Indah in Mentakab on 13 November 2016. 
The hotel located at Jalan Orkid,Kampung Catin, Mentakab, Pahang, strategically located in the town. 


23.7.2016: HOTEL GAMBANG SELESA VIEW, GAMBANG, PAHANG
The hotel located at Jalan Bandar 3, Gambang, Pahang is the hotel that my colleagues and I had stayed during our event at SJK (Cina) Gambang on 24 July 2016. 


3 JULY 2018: THE V HOTEL, KUANTAN, PAHANG
The Hotel located at Jalan Haji Abdul Rahman, just a short walk to Kuantan Parade and the famous Sultan Ahmad Shah Mosque in Kuantan. We stay at this hotel during our event at Kuantan Parade from 4-8 July 2018.


AUGUST 2018: BB INN & PERUMAHAN MAKMUR, CAMERON HIGHLANDS,PAHANG
During our events at Kg. Pos Brooke Lama at Gua Musang, Kelantan, we stayed overnight at the BB Inn and the Perumahan Makmur at Cameron Highlands. 



Pahang is widely considered worth visiting due to its incredible natural diversity, offering a unique blend of ancient rainforests, cool highlands, and pristine beaches and islands. It caters to a wide range of interests, from nature enthusiasts to adventure seekers and those looking for relaxation.

HOTEL MEMORIES (KUALA LUMPUR)

1999: DORSET REGENCY KUALA LUMPUR
Attending my wife's friend's wedding at Dorsett Regency Hotel Kuala Lumpur (now Dorsett Kuala Lumpur) at Jalan Bukit Bintang.


2000: RENAISSANCE HOTEL KUALA  LUMPUR
IEM 41st Annual Dinner on 15 April 2000, held at The Renaissance Hotel located at the corner of Jalan Sultan Ismail dan Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur.
The hotel was a premier venue for large-scale corporate and professional gatherings in KL during the early 2000's.


2001: MANDARIN ORIENTAL HOTEL KL
The IEM 42nd Annual Dinner was held at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Kuala Lumpur City Center on 21 April 2001. 
The Guest of Honor was the then Deputy Prime Minister, Dato'Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. 


2002: ISTANA HOTEL KUALA LUMPUR
The IEM 43rd Annual Dinner was held at the Istana Hotel, located at Jalan Raja Chulan, KL, was a landmark of Malaysian hospitality for nearly 30 years.
The hotel was launched in 1992 by then-Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad. 
Sadly the hotel ceased operationss on September 1, 2021, due to the severe impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the tourism industry and increasing competition in the city center. 
The building has been undergoing a massive transformation. Following its closure, it was announced that the property would be rebranded and refurbished as the Waldorf Astoria Kuala Lumpur, marking the entry of the luxury Hilton-owned brand into the Malaysian market.


21-24 MAY 2006: BERJAYA TIMES SQUARE HOTEL KL
The 11th Asian Congress of Fluid Mechanics was held at the Berjaya Times Square Hotel, located at Jalan Imbi, Bukit Bintang, KL. This is a major international conference organised by The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia from 21-24 May 2006, to brings together researchers and engineers to discuss advances in aerodynamic, heat transfer and computational fluid dynamic. 
Berjaya Times Square Hotel was opened in 2003. I Stayed at room 38-04, a service suite style room, from my room at 38th floor, looking down at Pudu Prison, at the time in 2006 was still standing. Most of this complex was demolished in 2010 to make way for the Bukit Bintang City Centre (BBCC) development.

27-30 AUGUST 2006: KL CONVENTION CENTRE
The 11th Asian Pacific Confederation of Chemical Engineering (APPChE) Congress held at KL Convention Centre from 27-30 August 2006. This event was a major milestone for the chemical engineering community in the region, it brought together 1,000 delegates to discuss the future of the industry.
The KL Convention Centre was opened in May 2005 as part of the Integrated KLCC development. It is owned by the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of PETRONAS). 
During the COVID-19 pandemic, it served as a mass vaccination centre.


The date of 28 August 2006, when the 11th APPChE was held at the KL Convention Centre, coincidentally coincided with the wedding ceremony of Malaysia's top artist at the time, Siti Nurhaliza (Dato Sri later on), and Dato' Sri Khalid Mohamad Jiwa, one of the most famous wedding ceremonies in Malaysia that was broadcast nationwide and was dubbed the "Wedding of the Century". The wedding was held at the ground floor of KL Convention Centre while our event was held at the 3rd floor. 


17 APRIL 2010: SIME DARBY CONVENTION CENTRE
The IEM 51st Annual Dinner was held at the Sime Darby Convention Centre on 17 April 2010. A milestone event celebrating the 51st Anniversary of IEM, which is the Primary professional body for engineers in Malaysia.
The Sime Darby Convention Centre is a premier event space located near the KL Golf and Country Club (KLGCC), Bukit Kiara, KL. It is a key asset of Sime Darby Property Berhad.It opened its doors in February 2006.


15.12.2013: HOTEL SUNWAY PUTRA, KL
The Poster Exhibition event held at the Sunway Putra Hotel KL on December 14 & 15, 2013 hosted by Yayasan Jantung Malaysia. 
Sunway Putra Hotel, a 5-star Hotel located at Jalan Putra, Kuala Lumpur, strategically situated in the "Diamond Triangle" area of Kuala Lumpur, opposite to World Trade Centre KL (WTCKL), formerly known as the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC). The complex was originally known as "The Mall" dan "The Legend Hotel" when it first opened in the 1990's. 


27.2.2014: ISTANA HOTEL, KL
The Yayasan Jantung Malaysia celebrating its 30th Anniversaty Commemoration Dinner on February 27, 2014. 
The event was held at the iconic Hotel Istana at Jalan Raja Chulan, KL. The hotel officially opened in 1992, was launched by the then-Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad. 
However, after 29 years of operation, the hotel officially ceased operation on September 1, 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite serving as a quarantine hotel during the lockdowns, the management reported significant operation losses and determined the business was no longer viable. 


5 AUGUST 2017: GRAND SEASON HOTEL KL
Reunion of Class '73 from SRJK (Inggeris) Gombak 1 & Gombak 2 on 5 August 2017 at the Grand Season Hotel, Jalan Pahang, Kuala Lumpur.
SRJK Gombak was separated into two administration that is Gombak 1 and Gombak in 1971, sharing the same site at Km 8, Jalan Gombak, Kuala Lumpur. 
The Grand Season Hotel today had officially ceased operations on 28 February 2018 after over 20 years in business. During the pandemic in 2021, the building was temporarily repurposed as Rumah Prihatin @ Grand Season, a welfare centre and "Welfare Hotel" to thos in need an frontliners.
