GEMAS, NEGERI SEMBILAN

Gemas is a town in Tampin District of Negeri Sembilan. It is notable for being at the main junction of Malaysia's rail network and approximately half-way between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.

There is not much to do or tosee in Gemas, but you might need to stay a couple of hours witing for the next train or end up staying overnight.

My memories of Gemas town are from the the years 1980's when I was traveling by train from Johor Bahru to Kuala Lumpur. At that time I was stationed onboard Navy ship at the Naval Base in Woodlands, Singapore.The train would stop for a long time at Gemas Railway Station. The sweetest memories I still remember to this day are of young boys selling hot tea, curry puffs, and nasi lemak when the train stopped at Gemas. They sold hot tea in milk cans with the labels removed.

The Gemas Old Railway Stationwas built in 1922, was once a crucial hub connecting Malaysia's West Coast Line to its East Coast Lines.It served as a key junction for trains traveling between Singapore and Bangkok.

However, the station was closed in 2015 when the tracks were realigned and a new Station was constructed.

The new Railway Station was built built to accomodate electrifying of West Coast route and also the subsequent ETS extension.

The old staion building was later converted as a hawker place and later parts of it converted into Railway Museum.

FELDA PALONG 1 AND FELDA PALONG 14,15 AND 16

On 20 October 2017, the Malaysian Heart Foundation Awareness Team and I travelled from Kuala Lumpur to Gemas, Negeri Sembilan, for a community programme at FELDA Palong Satu and FELDA Palong 14, 15, and 16 in Gemas. The 172 km journey took approximately 2 hours.

We stayed at the Tropicana Hotel in the Gemas Industrial Area, Negeri Sembilan. A 4-minute walk from Gemas train station, this low-key hotel is a 2-minute walk from local eateries and bars, and 54 km from scenic hiking trails at Gunung Ledang Johor National Park.

FELDA PALONG 1

21 OCTOBER 2017

On the morning of 21 October 2017, we set off for FELDA Palong Satu for the Community program. FELDA Palong Satu is 18 km from our hotel in Gemas, which is about a 20-minute drive.

FELDA Palong is located in the Jempol district of Negeri Sembilan and has Palong 1 to Palong 20. Palong connects Pasir Besar and Bandar Muadzam Shah.

The YJM Health Screening Program was held at FELDA Palong 1 in conjunction with the Thanksgiving Ceremony to celebrate the return to duty at FELDA Global Ventures Holdings (FGV) of Datuk Hj. Zakaria bin Hj. Arshad as the Chief Executive Officer, who was said to be involved in the recent FGV conflict. He is a local from Palong 1 who is known by the settlers of FELDA Palong 1.

A total of 93 residents and settlers of FELDA Palong 1 attended to undergo the health screening test that day.

The program at FELDA Palong 1 was also assisted by nurses from SALAM Senawang Specialist Hospital, who have collaborated with the Malaysian Heart Foundation many times.

FELDA PALONG 14,15 AND 16

On the morning of 22 October 2017, we left Hotel Tropicana Gemas for FELDA Palong 14, 15 and 16 for the next Community program. The distance from FELDA Palong 14 to our hotel in Gemas is approximately 51 km, which is a 45-minute drive...further than FELDA Palong Satu in the previous program.

A total of 90 people attended to undergo the Health Screening Test that day. Also helping were nurses from SALAM Senawang Specialist Hospital.

The Heart Disease Awareness Program was held at the Public Hall, FELDA Palong 1 from 9.00 am to 2.00 pm.

We were also assisted by nurses from SALAM Senawang Specialist Hospital.

The second program was held at the Semai Bakti FELDA Palong Multipurpose Hall 14, 15 and 16 also from 9.00 am to 2.00 pm.

Gemas is a sleepy town built aroung the Railway junction which is made up mainly of pre-war shophouses. It was one of the first towns in Malaya to have a railway station.

FELDA BUKIT ROKAN UTARA

The FELDA Bukit Rokan is one of the planned land areas in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia. It is located under FELDA Wilayah Raja Alias. The FELDA Bukit Rokan cluster is located in the Tampin district and is located within the Gemencheh DUN area. This cluster includes three planned land areas, namely FELDA Bukit Rokan (in the eastern part), FELDA Bukit Rokan Utara and FELDA Bukit Rokan Barat.

FELDA Bukit Rokan Utara was explored in 1969 and began to be inhabited in 1972. FELDA Bukit Rokan Barat was opened in 1979 and began to be inhabited in 1985.
