2012 & 2018: IPOH, PERAK

4 JULY 2024

Ipoh is the the capital city of the Malaysian State of Perak. Located by the Kinta River, it is nearly 200 km north of Kuala Lumpur and 150 km southeast of Georgetown, Penang.
My first memory of setting foot in Ipoh was in January 1980 when I was selected to undergo Royal Malaysian Navy recruit training in Lumut, Perak.
I took a train from Kuala Lumpur to Ipoh, and from Ipoh, I took a Navy bus to Lumut, Perak. Ipoh Railway Station was my first stop when I first arrived in Ipoh, Perak. The train journey from KL to Ipoh takes 2 hours 57 minutes.

Ipoh Railway Station is located 3 km southwest from the city of Ipoh and is architectural marvel. Constructed by Arthur Benison Hubback the Railway Station was opened to the public in 1935.

Ipoh Cenotaph or Ipoh War Memorial located outside the front of the Railway Station, built for the remembrance of the soldiers who fought the two World War. It was built in 1927 and unveiled on Remembrance Day, originally to commemorate the soldiers from the Perak State who had died in World War 1.

After 32 years, the last time I was in Ipoh, I finally arrived back on 19 June 2012. This time, I was with Yayasan Jantung Malaysia to conduct a Health Screening Program at AEON Kinta City in Ipoh, Perak from 19-24 June 2012.
The journey by Office vehicle from our office in Kuala Lumpur to Fair Park Hotel in Ipoh is 208 km and the journey takes 2 hours 23 minutes.

We stayed at the Fair Park Hotel located in Jalan Kamarudin Isa, Ipoh, Perak throughout the program. A charming 2-star hotel nestled in the heart of Ipoh, near the city center, shopping and sightseeing nearby.

Kinta City is a district at the heart of Perak and is home to the city of Ipoh. It is a mandatory stop for travellers, as it holds some of the best-tasting food and drinks that you could ever find. Besides food, one could not simply ignore the vibrant colour of the mural arts surrounding this blooming, ever-youthful city!

Something that I haven't done in such a long time was watching a movie at the cinema. As far as I can remember, the last time I watched a movie at the cinema was with my wife when we were newly married.
At the invitation of my teammates, I went to watch "Paskal The Movie" at the MBO Theater at AEON Midtown Falim on the first night we arrived in Falim.
Since I was a Navy Veteran, this film is about the struggle of the members of the Special Naval Forces (PASKAL) in maintaining the peace of the country.
MBO Cinema at AEON Midtown Falim opened on December 23, 2017, containing 8 Hall Cinemas with a capacity of 1169 seats.

PASKAL or Pasukan Khas Laut is an elite unit in the Royal Malaysian Navy. The movie directed by Adrian Teh, starring Hairul Azreen, Ammar Alfian, Henley Hii, Gambit Saifullah, Jasmine Suraya Chin etc..is a true events of PASKAL's team. The movie is one of the most expensive Malaysian film ever made.

Ipoh is Malaysia's charming sleepy town with an exciting food, culture and arts scene. Beside good old Ipoh White Coffee, Tau Fu Fah and murals Ipoh is also a home to beautiful limestone karst mountains, caves and serene hot springs.

Let's go to Ipoh!!!
You may have heard of the locals say the famous tagline of "IPOH MALI" translate to "I'm from Ipoh",  this tagline was coined and now after many generations, Ipoh community are still "IPOH MALI" and forever will be, and let it be "MARI KE IPOH"...
