SELANGOR : SERDANG

Serdang is a town that is located in Selangor and is now widely known as Seri Kembangan. The town was establishes as Serdang New Village in the 1950’s  and was known for cottage industries like shoe-making and typesetting services. The town is now developed into an area widely made up of entrepreneurs, businessmen, professionals and government servants working in Putrajaya and Cyberjaya.

Serdang is an easily accessible town with the road works that connects the town to its neighbouring towns and cities. Those living in the town of Serdang has easy access to major highways such as North – South Expressway southern route (PLUS), Sungai Besi Expressway (Besraya) and Kuala Lumpur – Seremban Expressway (KLS). These routes connect Serdang to towns and cities such as Melaka, Kuala Lumpur, Sungai Besi, Balakong and Mines Resort City.

As one of IEM objective to enhance the general knowledge of IEM members, The Mechanical Engineering Technical Division has organised a technical visit to Serdang Power Station (Now Putrajaya Power Station) on 11 March 2006. The half day trip was participated by more than 30 engineers, from various disciplines. 
Located at Sepang District, it is one of 7 Thermal Power Stations owned by Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB). It was built in 1993 as part of TNB's plan to increase power generation capacity to meet Malaysia's rising electricity demand in the early 1990s.
