WILAYAH PERSEKUTUAN : PUTRAJAYA

Putrajaya was built from rubber estate land called Prang Besar which was filled with jungle and oil palm plantations.

The establishment of Putrajaya was the brainchild of the former 4th and 7th Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohammad. The area was developed into the government headquarters on 12 October 1994. However, construction activities began on 16 April 1995.

On 1 June 1999, 300 officers from the Prime Minister's Department began moving into a new building in Putrajaya as the first citizens to inhabit Putrajaya.

Putrajaya was officially declared a Federal Territory on 1 February 2001, making it the 3rd location of the Federal Territory after Kuala Lumpur and Labuan.

My first experience with Putrajaya was when I worked with The Institution of Engineers Malaysia from 1999 - 2011. I once attended a conference at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (sorry, I don't remember the year). Unfortunately, the photos of the memories from the conference are lost in my storage.

The Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) occupies an area of 135,000 square meters in Precint 5.  The building began construction in 2001 and was completed in September 2003.

Friday prayers at the Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Mosque while attending the Program Coordination Meeting in Putrajaya (can't remember the name of the place).
The Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Mosque is also called the Iron Mosque, located in Precinct 3, Putrajaya. Built since April 2004 and fully completed in August 2009.
It is called the Iron Mosque because 6,000 tons of steel were used to build this mosque, representing about 70% while the rest is concrete.

The Diplomatic Precinct Town Centre is located in Precinct 15, close to the Government Complex and Alamanda Shopping Complex. Memories of attending a relative's wedding there.

Built in 1997, the complex houses the office of the Prime Minister, several government departments and agencies. Parched on the main hill in Putrajaya, the complex incorporates various architectural influences including European , Islamic and traditional Malay.

Putra Square or locally known as Dataran Putra, located opposite Perdana Putra, it is the venue of National level celebrations and festivals including the Malaysian Independence Day Parade. The square is actually two concentrics plazas, divided into star-shaped segments that represent the states of Malaysia.

My wife and I was invited by my Niece to take a cruise on Lake Putrajaya. The cruise around the lake takes 45 minutes and it si worth the money.
Lying in the heart of Putrajaya is the 650-hectare Lake Putrajaya, a calm body of water linking the different precints, visitors can embark on leisurely curise on the lake to take in the breathtaking sight of the city's many landmarks.

Two different modes of transportation are available, a passenge vruise boat or gondola-like vessels that resembles traditional Malay Perahu. Daun is a luxury dining cruise boat that comes with the trimmings of a five-star restaurant, so passengers can dine in style while enjoying the views.

Jambatan Putra, 435m long connecting Precints 1 and 2 on the Core Island. The upper level of the bridge forms part of the Boulevard, the main street in the capital, its designed was inspired by the Islamic architecture of the famous Khaju Bridge in Isfahan, Iran, its attraction include the four-minaret-like-piers complete with observation decks that overlook Lake Putrajaya.

Masjid Putra or Putra Mosque is the principal mosque in Putrajaya. Built with rose-tinted granite that gives it its distinctive colour, the mosque can accomodate 15,000 worshippers. An interesting features of the mosque is the sahn or courtyard , which landscaped with decorative water features to provide a soothing feel.

Seri Saujana Bridge, another premier bridge in Putrajaya, connecting Precint 4 on the Core Island to Precint 7. Seri Perdana Bridge spans a length of 370 m across the Putrajaya Lake. It is based on royal Islamic architectural design. This bridge contains eight unique balconies / rest areas for visitors.

Monorel Suspension Bridge is one of the many bridges in Putrajaya, built to link several important landmarks in the Putrajaya area like the Putrajaya Convention Centre, Putra Mosque and the Government Administrative Complex in Parcel E.
